One of India’s most famous film actors Vinod Khanna has died from cancer. Khanna, 70, was admitted to hospital earlier this month when his illness became more serious.
The star had appeared in more than one hundred Bollywood movies and was widely seen as a rival to the ‘angry young man’ persona portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan. His acting career began in 1968, becoming a household name in India during the 1970s and eighties when he appeared in numerous hit films.
Khanna was elected to parliament on our occasions, once securing a junior foreign ministerial role. According to the Indian Express newspaper, he had been battling bladder cancer for the last six years.
